I used to feel bad that Kendall always chose me over Isaiah. She’d want me to hold her, feed her, rock her, bathe her, etc.
Well you know that phrase “daddy’s girl?” Now I get it… She’s finally paying me back for all the time we spent together during her first 18 months or so, because for the last several months, she only has eyes for her Dada, as she calls him. It’s a good change for Isaiah and I know he loves the way she loves him, but sometimes I miss the days when I was her favorite! :)
Damon took this picture of them at Easter, and that look of adoration says it all. Yep, those two are peas in a pod.
Tuggy and Kendall are still the best of friends…no change there. She likes to hold his tail and let him “pull” her around with it, use him as a pillow, climb him like a furry mountain, sit on his back, etc. And of course he just sits there all sweet like always. Our gentle giant…
Nana came to visit for a week or so around the beginning of May and was here for Mother’s Day. I love that she got to experience our “new and improved” Kendall. For the past month or two, when I’d get on to Kendall for doing something naughty while on the phone with Mom, she’d tell me to not be so hard on her b/c she was soooo sweet. I kept saying, “oh, she used to be…you have no idea.”
Well sure enough, Nana got to keep Kendall for a whole week while I went to work…and she admitted it…”She’s a toot!” Yep, it’s official. If the Nana will admit it, it’s true. Don’t get me wrong. Kendall is still really sweet sometimes, but is TOTALLY two at times as well. A toot, I say, a toot.
And for our sad change? Kendall is too little to know her friend and honorary grandpa S.M. is gone for good, but Isaiah did take her with him to the visitation with the family the night before the funeral. As he was holding her, she kept pointing to S.M. in the casket. I think she was probably wondering why he was sleeping and when he was going to get up and play with her.
I honestly never thought about him not being around anytime soon, so we don’t have as many pictures of S.M. and Kendall together as I’d like, but this is one of my favorites. He just jumped right in when she came home from the hospital, ready to feed her, burp her, hold her, etc. How many men in their late 80s do that?!?! He was a dear friend and will be sorely missed. I wish Kendall would be able to remember him someday…
Another big change coming up is my new job. I’ll have been at the newspaper for just a short four months and I feel awful for leaving, but I think it’s the right move for me – career wise, schedule wise and financially (if only a bit). I’m looking forward to being the Assistant Director of Athletic Media & Marketing at Wayland, and will start July 2.
Well, I need to get to bed. I’ve been working until after 11 almost every night lately, and so to be home by 9:30 like I was tonight was a luxury. Need to get to bed before midnight! (That WILL be a change!)
