Our 5-Yr. Anniversary and a Wedding Shower

So it seems I'm always a week behind with what is going on in our lives. Ah well, I guess that means fun times are afoot!

Last Friday was Isaiah's and my fifth wedding anniversary! Yay! I can't believe it's been five years since we got married. Time just flies by. We knew we were going to be busy on Thursday and Friday nights, so we went out to dinner to celebrate on Wednesday night at a southwestern steakhouse Erin recommended. It was delicious and fun to have a night out since we stay home most of the time anymore.

So for our anniversary present, I told Isaiah not to get me anything. I surprised him with a gift I bought for us both, which was something I'd been wanting for a long time. I got the bonded rings picture from Benjamin Knox, the artist who went to A&M and has a gallery in College Station. The bonded rings are Aggie rings with each of our class years on them...obviously mine on the smaller women's ring and Isaiah's on the larger men's ring

A very cool story about getting this...when I was in College Station visiting friends in September, I stopped by the gallery to order this picture. While waiting for the salesclerk girl to finish up with another customer, who walks in to help me but Mr. Knox himself!?! He asked what I was looking for and I told him the bonded rings, so he said he would just go ahead and pencil our class years in right there while I waited. So we stood there for about 15 minutes and chatted while he worked -- he's from Lubbock so we talked about that and then he asked if I was buying the picture for anything special. I told him it was for our 5th anniversary so he put our names and date of our wedding under the rings. Isn't that cool! So it's totally customized for us.

Here's the picture, framed and all pretty before we hung it on the wall in our living room:

So the reason we weren't home on Friday night was because we drove to Dallas for the weekend for Brooke and Heath's couples wedding shower. We got in pretty late on Friday, but hung out over at our friends' Becky and Don's house for a little while before going home with Brooke and Heath where they put us up for the weekend. Saturday we just hung out and watched football before all the shower hostesses got together at 4 to get everything ready at Brooke's Aunt Karin and Uncle Darryl's house. The shower kicked off at 6 and everything went perfect! The food was wonderful, everything was decorated so nicely and it just went great!

Here's Becky, Lisa and me:

We drove home on Sunday to pick up Tuggy from the pet resort where he spent the weekend. They're only open from 6-7 p.m., so we were driving like crazy to get here in time to bring our son home with us! All in all, we had a great weekend!

This week, Isaiah's in the middle of transitioning from day shift to his new management position on second shift, so he's going in to work around 12:30 and getting home around 10:30. The nice thing about that is that he's home with me in the morning before I go to work and then we get to go to night-night together. Next week he starts his 3-midnight shift, which will be a big transition for us both. Wish us luck!

This weekend, Brooke, Heath, Becky and Don are headed our way to spend the weekend and go to the Tech/OU game. We're looking forward to seeing them all again!
