Our fabulous bathroom makeover

We posted these pics to Facebook last night, but I also wanted to put them on here so everybody could see the great work Isaiah did on our guest bathroom. He took his time and worked on it on and off for about six months, but he did a GREAT job! I love the new bathroom and am excited for him to work on the master bath next.

Here are a few pics I took before we even moved in – yes, that’s a preggo me in the mirror in the second pic. Can you believe we still bought this house with this hideous bathroom?!?! :)

This bathroom came complete with ivory carpet (who in their right mind?!?), pink tile EVERYWHERE, pink hydrangea wallpaper and pink curtain, glass shower doors, gold sink fixtures, counter-to-ceiling mirrors, and awful dangly crystal light fixture. YUCKO!

Isaiah began demolition by tearing out the carpet, taking down the wallpaper, curtains and knocking out the pink tile. I won’t go into details, but you don’t even want to know how gross it was under that carpet.

He then knocked out the entire shower surround…

He pulled out the toilet so he could get out all the tile around it and had to tear out the sheetrock on the back side of the privacy wall.

Before tackling the vanity, he decided to go ahead and tile the floor. He did a great job, and here it is before he put the grout in and sealed it all up.

7

He then knocked out all the tile from the vanity, which had a thick concrete slab under it. What a mess!

Here’s a close-up of the shower surround tile and the glass accent tiles. We were so excited to see how this area was coming together!

Here’s the shower after it was done, all nice and cleaned up, but before he installed the new brushed nickel shower fixture.

I have to admit, we didn’t do great about taking pics during the finishing stages. After doing the floor and finishing the tilework in the shower, he rebuilt the privacy wall and made it higher (topped with a wood topper-thingy my Dad made earlier this summer), put in the granite countertop and granite/glass accent tile backsplash, installed the new square sink and brushed nickel sink fixture, installed the new light fixture, repainted all the cabinets, installed the new brushed nickel cabinet pulls and towel bars/rings, and sanded, textured and painted the walls. Last but not least, we had our humongous mirror cut down by a local glass company and then Isaiah cut a frame for it and painted it.

I bought a shower curtain and rug at Dillard’s that were both on sale (yay!), but we still need to buy matching towels. For now, the beige ones will have to do. Anyway, maybe I’m biased, but I think it all looks gorgeous and I’m so proud of Isaiah for all his hard work!

I have to note, the only thing we haven’t done in this room is have the pink tub reglazed white. We considered replacing it, but I really like the old, heavy metal tubs and you just can’t get them like that anymore! We’re going to wait to have it done until our other bathroom is ready and then we’ll have them done at the same time to save money.

So…come see our new bathroom! Use the toilet! Wash your hands in our new sink! Check yourself out in our new mirror! Just don’t stay in there too long…. :)

  1. I love it!!! I am impressed. We have aspirations to do this stuff but then chicken out. Maybe when we're in a place we want to live for more than a few years then we'll do it.
