Oh the Shame...

I'm a moron. (And no, this isn't Isaiah blogging....it's still me.) Sorry honey, just kidding. :)

Yep, an idiot, a fool, a nitwit. That's what I am. Sooooo dumb, sooooo stupid. Sigh.... I must confess, I made a total jackarse out of myself today at work over the stupidest, dumbest, most "Journalism 101" thing.

See, when I worked at the medical school, I wrote a lot, but I also did a lot of editing for other folks. I was known for catching mistakes other people missed. I'd realize the location of an event had been changed or the time was wrong or the FREAKING DATE WASN'T RIGHT...just nanoseconds before the mistake would be sent off to the printers or carved in stone! I was often a hero!

Well, today I was that dumb person that needed someone smart (used to be me, evidently) to say, "Summer, I know you wrote in your first published article as a writer at the Avalanche-Journal that these events take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, but that's wrong because they are on Monday and Tuesday, YOU BIG FREAKING MORON!"

But alas, the editor didn't double check it either and it was printed as such. Yay me. My first published story as an employee and I bunked it all up. Sigh....oh well. I went and got myself a Shaken Iced Tea Lemonade at Starbucks (thanks to a newly discovered $10 gift card in my wallet this morning) to make me feel better. But so far I still feel like a huge numbskull.

Anyway, the good thing is the online version of the story (http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/100209/fea_500173584.shtml) has been fixed to reflect the correct days. The bad thing is they'll be running a correction in tomorrow's paper. Wonder if they'll print a huge picture of me with a dunce cap and drool coming out of my mouth next to it?

TGIF my friends, TGIF.... Here's hoping my shame will dissapate before I have to face my boss and co-workers on Monday.
