So....the big day....I allowed myself to sleep until 10 a.m. (since it was a special occasion after all) and for lunch I did my best to replicate a special, delicious sandwich Brooke and I had on our trip to Boston. It was grilled cheese...but not just any grilled cheese. It had goat cheese (I told you I was obsessed!), tomato and bacon on toasted, buttery, pan-grilled bread. Oh my goodness, was it good!
In the afternoon, I went to get groceries and dropped off some old videotapes of Isaiah's from his Army days when he was stationed in Japan. They're those little rectangle tape thingys that you need some special equipment to play these days, so I took them to a place to have them put on a DVD. I'm more than a little curious what gems will pop up on those tapes and I think Isaiah's a bit nervous. ;) I'm glad there aren't any old videos of my college days floating around!
Isaiah got home from work and knocked on the front door so I would open it. And there was my lil’ sweetums with flowers and balloons. Isn’t he sweet? (He also got me an iPod docking station, but I opened it immediately a few weeks ago.)
Last night we got together with Erin, Damon, the kiddos and Andi to celebrate four of our birthdays that fell within the last month. Isaiah turned 31 on July 11, Andi turned 27 on July 20, Erin turned 30 on Aug. 1 and of course yesterday was my 30th birthday as well!
Here's baby Avery with her Auntie Andi. Her hair is juuuust getting long enough for Erin to put them in these tiny little pigtails. She's such a cutie tootie!
Erin & Damon supplied steaks, baked taters and green beans, we brought garlic-lime corn for the grill and salad, and Andi made the most delicous, spectacular birthday ice cream cake.....chocolate cake with mint-choc chip ice cream in the middle with homemade fudge sauce and whipped cream! It was all soooooo good!
Then, at Cayden's request, we watched "Marley & Me" -- it was cute because he called the dog in the movie Tug. And they do look alike….but thank God our sweet Tuggy isn’t anything like that hellion. Of course Isaiah couldn't stay awake through the whole thing so we had to go home at 8:30. Sigh.....I do love my little old man. I got this great picture of Isaiah and baby Avery lounging on the carpet watching the movie. Aren't they cute?!?
And then....Cayden got up on the coffee table and did a little booty shakin' for me. Isn't he hysterical? (Sorry I turned the camera sideways...I can't figure out how to turn it! Just cock your head to see this crazy kid dancing!)
Anyway, I had a great birthday. Thanks to friends and family for all the calls, texts, cards and emails sending birthday wishes!
Looks like ya'll had so much fun! Wish we were there to join in on the fun and food :)
